I’ve always been intimidated by the log cabin block. It just seemed so complicated. I was surprised when someone told me this was one of the simplest blocks out there. Once I found that out, I just had to give it a try!

It basically starts with the center square. Then you add strips to the center and add and add… until you get the log cabin.

Because this was my first time making it, I decided to make a small baby quilt. I cut some fat quarters into 2.5 inch strips. I used purple, pink, green and blue. I made four of each block and then set them three across and four down.

These blocks came together in no time, so you know what that means? Extra time for free motion quilting!!
I did figure eights and straight line quilting in the cream colored background fabric. Then in the colored fabric, I quilted features and flowers. Check out the back of the quilt. I love how it looks like a whole cloth quilt.

For the binding, I used some extra 2.5 inch strips of the purple fabric. It makes it looks extra scrappy if I do say so myself. 🙂

This quilt was just so much fun to make, I’m going to make some more! I’m saving up some of my 2.5 inch strips so I can make a truly scrappy log cabin. This quilt has been sold, but let me know if you can interested in one. I do custom orders in my Etsy shop.
Or if you want to make your own, I’ve created a print out. This is the same size of the blocks I used for the baby quilt.
As always, leave me a comment if you have any questions. Stay crafty!
